Title:	Two Diplomatic Documents from the Khokend Khanate to Ch`ing Empire in the Mid-19th Century

Abstract:	該兩文牘是以當時中亞通行之察哈臺文書寫，原件係現存於故宮軍機檔中類此少數文牘之一。本文寫作是先敘述清朝與其藩屬浩罕汗國之關係及一八四七年浩罕入侵喀什噶爾之史實；隨後將原察哈臺文文牘現代音譯之，並闡釋其字源、音韻及文法結構等。最後就史、文之研究與相關資料比較而結論之。就史實而言，當時清國因內憂外患，國力衰退，邊臣治理不當，致使回疆動亂不已，而名為藩屬之浩罕心存僥倖，伺機擴張，所幸鴉片戰啟，東南兵燹，西北幸安；不然兩端兵禍，則國勢更蹙。道光對浩罕隱忍，而諄誡邊史謹慎自衛之道在此。就文字而論，浩罕伯克遣人令使臣按天朝規矩書寫文牘，宜就當時中亞政治社會環境認識之；不宜以歐西正統外交文牘習慣而論。分析該二文牘之語文結構後，知其與現今烏孜別克方言無甚差異。本文是宣讀於一九八三年九月初在東京京都舉辦之「第三十一屆亞洲及北非人類科學會」，故以英文寫作。
