    Abstract: 本研究探討社會學中兩組競爭模型──擴散及調適，於解釋臺灣地區家庭限制行為轉型過程中之適用性。多變項迴歸分析中所使用的，是一九六一至一九八○年間的臺灣地區區域性資料。擴散模型於本研究中，又細分為兩個次級觀點，即需求面及供應面的擴散功能；分別代表由都市至鄉村地區的自然擴散過程，及透過家庭計劃而實施的有組織擴散。調適模型包括三個社會經濟變數，以期測量由結構變遷，而導致的家庭限制行為水準的變化。其它因素則含人口及省籍等自變數。研究中的應變數，是寇爾──崔素「m」值，以測量廿至四十四歲已婚婦女，施行家庭限制行為的程度。研究結果發現，由距都會中心測量的需求面擴散，顯然在一九六○年代中地位重要，但於稍後的一九七○年代中其統計上影響力卻逐漸減弱。以家庭計畫投入量測量的供應面擴散，在一九六○年代出現預期的對小ｍ值正向的相關，但在一九七○年代中卻演變為負方向。我們舉證說明這種結果，是由於家庭計劃方案，將較多投入量置於高生育率地區。調適模型變數則出現不一致的結果。女性教育程度變數，顯示正方向、統計檢定顯著而影嚮力逐年增強的迴歸係數。其它包括兒童死亡率、客家人口百分比及外省人人口百分比等變數，均具有迴歸分析中一致且強烈的統計影響力。
