Title:	Voyage of Discovery: Herzog in Perspective

Abstract:	「何索」一書之結局，說者紛紜，莫衷一是。有的認為其結局並未交代主角心理已趨正常；有的則持相反意見辯稱該書結尾主角已然神智清明。本文特就此項批評爭議細加探究，透視主角之心路歷程，並以主角芝加哥之行為轉捩點。明確表示此行不僅使主角萌發新的意識體認，同時使他更進一步瞭解知識份子之良心與責任。文中以英國心理學家R.D. Laing所揭櫫的「本體性不安」觀念闡明何索失去心理平衡之癥結所在。除了心理分析之外，本文並詳細追溯何索對於西方思想家如黑格爾、尼采、海德格等人之質疑，成功地探討了何索對這些思想的取捨以及該項取捨對於何索精神新生之意義。
