    Abstract: 本稿乃是以基督教哲學思想家──聖安瑟姆斯(St. Anselmus 1033～1109)和在日本基督教思想家中代表人物──內村鑑三(1861-1930)的「信仰的理解」(Intellectus Fidei)，並加上從語言學另一面的考察，來瞭解在基督教思想和日本思想的「信仰理解」，其啟發之差異為目的。原為聖本篤會(St. Benedict Order)貝克(Bec)修道院院長Canterbury大主教的聖安瑟姆斯和聖奧古斯丁(St. Augustinus. 354～430)、聖多瑪斯、阿奎那(St. Thomas Aquinas1224-1274)同為中世紀基督教三大哲學思想家。其並非只是信仰神的存在而已，並以理性的必然性來證明，所以以最早的神學者而著名。他的名言「Fides Quaenens intellectum」（信以致知）。他以「信仰理解」之語言，而廣為人知。如以中世哲學「信仰的理解」的完成者來稱呼聖安瑟姆斯，則內村鑑三可被稱為將基督教溶入日本的傳統思想中來獲得了解的日本最偉大基督教思想家。內村將武士的精神，近代日本的文明思想（接受歐美的思想）及基督教精神予以統合，以一近代日本的典型日本人來創立日本的基督教思想而為人所知。本稿之研究，如能幫助來瞭解日本思想的話，則甚感欣慰。
