Abstract:	以往西方學界研究菩薩，往往於基督宗教與佛教對談的脈絡進行，偏重概念與義理；1990 年代之後，于君方從本地化的觀點，剖析觀音菩薩在中國女相化的複雜過程，廣泛援引佛教經典、史料、田野調查資料，開創新研究典範。智如（Zhiru）此書研究中古地藏，相當程度上繼承菩薩在地化的研究取徑，但是更進一步拓展佛教文類與圖像學的關係，檢討菩薩學的研究方法，是理解中國菩薩信仰形式的重要作品。
