Title:	植基於資料庫系統統計資訊之索引調校方法

Abstract:	在資料庫系統中，我們經常藉由建立索引來增加讀取的速度。但是若建立不正確的索引，不但會浪費儲存的空間，而且還會增加索引更新時的成本。針對一個工作負載(workload)，如何建立一個有最佳效能的索引組態，我們則稱之為索引選擇問題。這個問題的傳統作法，需要針對每一個查詢語句，去詢問最佳化器(optimizer)每種索引組態的成本。這樣的作法相當浪費儲存空問及運算能力。為了避免這些缺點，我們利用儲存於資料庫系統中的統計資訊，及最佳化器在評選索引時，所使用到的成本數據，發展出一個新的索引選擇演算法。在這個演算法中，我們將會考量到功能相近索引之間的替代性，並且刪除不適合存在的索引。本論文所提出之方法已在PostgreSQL資料庫上實作，並以TPC-H的資料架構做實驗，以驗證本論文所提方法之有效性;實驗證明了我們提出的方法可以推薦好的索引組態，增加整個工作負載執行時的效能。
