    Title: 大甲帽的歷史社會學考察

    Abstract: 本研究試圖剖析日治時期的「台灣帽子」如何反映「斷髮」後的個人在身體文化符碼上所產生的不協調狀態，並勾勒這項因應時代而生的身體商品，在其消費和生產過程中，蘊含著什麼樣的社會意義。本研究指出，大甲帽做為一種「現代性配件」，交織著全球文化與地方文化的往復互動。若說台灣的現代性認同誕生於摸索與迷惘之中，那麼，模仿巴拿馬草帽的大甲帽／林投帽，既滿足了形式上的「鏡中自我」，也擺脫了其他殖民現代性指標物件往往要求的階級條件，讓每個剪辮後的男子，都有機會以低廉的價格和極具本土色彩的材料，佩戴著「現代」和「全球」的標幟。於是，仿戴西式草帽固然模糊了西方與東方的邊界，卻也使得大甲帽同時擁有「外來」與「在地」的二元特性。
