Title:	民意測量的得失利弊辯

Abstract:	大家通用的名稱「民意測驗」應稱「民意測量」，因為我們進行的工作是資料的量化研究，而很少在資料質化研究的「驗」字上面用功夫，但民意測量此種量化研究久已應用為社會關係及心理現狀的探討方法。夏彬教授（F. S. Chopin）認為測量為科學的量化詮釋，優點在比其他方法較能獲得正確紀錄、較獨立的證實與傳播。但此優點必須有兩項基本原則，也就是必具測量的標準單位（Standard unit）與測量的標尺（Scale）。但用測量方法來記錄態度，只能得到接近的正確結果，因為態度是一種心理的準備狀態，由一連串對環境的反應與機動性的影響所產生，所以態度不能當作單位被測量，我們只能說態度是反映表達方式的傾向。不過在普通生活中，我們應該承認意見的表現總是態度的重要部分。故公眾意見即為構成份子在群處中所發展而成的態度。而反對論者則指稱態度是一種複雜現象，不能加以測量；所以量化的測量應佐以深入觀察的專題研究（case study）。
