Abstract:	伊斯蘭在西方主流話語中，經常與歧視、恐怖主義與反現代普世價值等字眼結合。特別是以伊斯蘭作為政治訴求的伊斯蘭主義者（Islamist），經常性成為西方媒體與政治人物批判的對象。每當伊斯蘭主義者透過民主選舉取得政權之後，政教合一與伊斯蘭法（Sharia）治國，成為外界激烈爭執的話題。特別在阿拉伯之春（2011-2013）期間，埃及與突尼西亞的伊斯蘭主義者透過民主選舉取得政權後，引起自由主義者的疑慮甚至恐慌。近日，土耳其總統艾爾多安（Erdogan）在反政變後，大規模整肅政敵的行動，招致西方媒體強力的批判。在多數西方媒體眼中，伊斯蘭主義者的本質是反自由與反民主價值。然而，Shadi Hamid的這本書《伊斯蘭例外論—伊斯蘭主義者如何形塑世界觀》卻提供不同的解釋途徑。Shadi Hamid是美國智庫布魯克林研究中心（Brookings Institution）的資深研究員，專長於當代伊斯蘭運動、中東民主化與美國對伊斯蘭主義的外交政策。《伊斯蘭例外論》是Hamid的第二本專書，延續他第一本專書《權力的誘惑—新中東的伊斯蘭主義者與非自由主義的民主》（Temptations of Power: Islamists and Illiberal Democracy in a New Middle East）的觀點。
