Title:	由研究力指標看21世紀美國研究型大學的特質

Abstract:	1810年，德國發展出世界第一所「研究型大學」－柏林洪堡德大學之後，歐洲各國紛紛起而效尤。雖然在一些國際大學評比中，美國大學的表現皆是最優異的，並成為各國大學相互學習的對象，但與歐洲大學相較，美國研究型大學的發展是較晚的。直到19世紀末，美國才受到德國模式研究型大學的影響，由聯邦政府推動稅賦優惠政策，鼓勵私人建校，促使新設立的私立大學紛紛投入研究發展與學士後訓練，如Johns Hopkins, Chicago, Stanford與Cornell等私立大學皆是在此一時期發展起來。而美國研究型大學真正發展到一定規模，甚至比歐洲大學培養出更多畢業生，則是20世紀初期，20年代之後。
