    Abstract: 本文採用歷史法、內容分析法、官方統計資料、個案法等方式來分析民國六十年和七十年間報紙的「社會新聞」。此外，本文主要採取「社會責任論」的立場，把相關新聞的製作視為報社「守門」過程的一部分，結論如下：(1)社會新聞的範疇已在擴大，有些記者甚至認為環境、科技、消費等新聞也屬於此類；(2)即使採用傳統的定義，社會新聞在過去未減反增，並分散到更多版面；(3)社會新聞從單純的刑案追蹤，把視野擴大到其他層面；(4)「都市新聞學」這類新的社會新聞正在萌芽；(5)大環境在變，但社會新聞記者與消息來源的關係並沒有太多改變。因此，本文建議未來的研究應該重視不同報社的守門過程，會如何影響該報社會新聞記者的心態和作為。
