    Abstract: 在參考服務之領域中，參考晤談一直被認為是不可或缺的一環。有許多文獻，致力在探討晤談之技巧。他們認為唯有透過良好的晤談技考，我才能發現讀者真正的資訊需求，進而提供適當的協助。但令人質疑的是，讀者的問題真的那麼複雜嗎？我們大量運用引自其他專業之晤談技巧，在參考晤談合適嗎？而即使館員找出讀者真正的需求，以館員現有之能力又能幫上什麼忙呢？我們長期以來，都把重點放在強調晤談之重要性及晤談技巧上，卻似乎對這些本質上的不確定，並本加以重視。本文便嘗試從另外一個觀點來看參考晤談，由德文(Brenda Dervin)之意義形成(sense-making)理論及林區(Mary Jo Lynch)於1970年代對西所公共圖書館所作之研究出發，重新思考這些問題。
