Abstract:	英美兩國不僅在世界圖書館事業居領導地位，其圖書館與資訊科學教育的建樹也常為各國所效法。圖書館與資訊服務的專業本質已受到社會大眾的肯定，專業教育不同於一般教育，有其專門的目標、特質與理論。本文旨在探討圖書館與資訊科學專業教育的本質與理論，尤其著重於英美兩國在此方面的發展，內文涵蓋專業的本質、專業教育的內涵、以及探研英美圖書館與資訊科學專業教育的重要理論。 The United States and the United Kingdom have played a leading role in the library development in the world, and the progress of their library and information science education has often been good examples to follow by countries all over the world. The professional nature of the library and information service has been acknowledged and confirmed by the public because its professional education is different from the general education in its specific objectives, characteristics and theories. The paper aims to analyze the nature and various theories of the library and information education with special emphasis on the development in this aspect in the United States and the United Kingdom, and the nature and the scope of the said professional education as well as the important American and the British library and information professional education will be discussed respectively.
