Abstract: Any societal change should be people-oriented. In the region of Southeast Asia, history has witnessed the occurrences of transformation, reform and revolution. In other words, there have been a variety of societal changes. Some changes continue and reach objectives. Some remain static and settle into a status-quo. Taiwan can win friends in Southeast Asia with its version of successful political transformation in a democratic setting. People in general want, and love, freedom. That is the starting point for Taiwan to go out into the world. Taiwan went through societal transformation that was participatory and holistic. The people are the center; the owner of national sovereignty as well as the final recipients of sovereign rights, benefits and rewards. Taiwan should not be shy to share with others its achievements.
