Abstract: This study proposed to investigate the fandom development mechanism in the augmented reality (AR) mobile games. A field observation in a physical fan festival and a virtual interest forum was adopted. Based on the reviews from past literature with the supports from the results collected from the field, a conceptual framework was developed in this study. Future development plans and potential research directions were illustrated conclusively. It is expected that this study will not only help readers understand the phenomenon of fandom development through the AR games but also attract the attentions from scholars in the field of information systems to begin a new research stream on the topic of fandom development in available diverse perspectives.
