    題名: 模稜兩可的態度還是不確定的未來：臺灣民眾統獨觀的解析

    摘要: 本研究從民意調查的長期資料，探討台灣地區民眾統獨態度的持續與變遷。本研究結果發現：再一九九四年到二○○一年期間，民眾支持「儘快獨立」與「儘快統一」的比例，再歷年來都不超過五個百分點，而主張「維持現狀，以後看情形再決定統一或是獨立」以及「永遠維持現狀」者比例，歷年來都接近五成。對於這個現象，筆者認為這是反映了台灣地區民眾對於改變現狀甚大的「統一」或是「獨立」都抱持戒慎恐懼的態度。因此，選擇以改變現狀不大的「維持現狀」，來處理台灣與大陸地區目前關係的模式，成為民眾的最愛。
    In this study, we demonstrate that the disrtribution of preference on the independence/unification issue was quite stable between 1994 and 2002. There were less than 5% respondents showing either an ”independence” or ”unification” preference between 1994 and 2002. One out of two respondents took ”mainatain the status quo now, decide what to do later,” or ”maintain the status quo indefinitely” stances. It indicates that most people in Taiwan take ambiguous stance on the independence/unification issue because they believe that maintaining the status quo is the best option for them at this time.
