Pregnancy and childbearing among teenagers have been considered as an important public health issue because it will induce negative influences. This article reviews current increasing rate of sexual behavior and risk factors on teenage pregnancy. The paper also describes the physiological and psychosocial impacts of adolescent pregnancy, which includes preterm delivery, low birth weight, dropout of school, distress of economy, maladaption to motherhood and lack of social support. Teenagers can not independently face these stressors of pregnancy and childbearing, and they need supports from families, boyfriend, peers, and the community. Pregnant adolescent girls and their families also need help from various professional specialists, such as doctors and nurses, social workers, teachers and lawyers, to go through the adaptation process of unplanned pregancy. This article suggests a holistic consultation model which intergrates multiple social networks.
