    Abstract: 如同好萊塢在1920年代，應運而起，在歐洲列強交戰之際，取代法國成為全球電影霸主，香港也在稍後（1930年代）在中日戰爭與國共內戰之際，奠定了小好萊塢的前期基礎。二戰之後，冷戰持續，香港近鄰的國家，既有經濟發展的能力，不足以支撐電影業的事實，又有其積極防堵或運用電影作為意識形態工具的企圖。這個情況恰與香港呈現強烈對比，其「無為而治」的作風，恰好變成一種最能夠承襲電影商業體質的張本。這個條件配合了資本殖民主義體制的政治相對穩定與社會秩序，統治者「給予」或容許港人較大商業自由（包括電影製作之語言、題材與品味），使得香港電影在戰後，能夠在既有的、得力於戰爭的電影業之基礎上，取得更大的發展成績。惟1990年代中後期以來，隨冷戰結束、香港回歸、中國開放及好萊塢的擴張，香港影業進入了「衰退」期。未來香港是否能在好萊塢主導的新國際文化分工體制內捲土重來，中國因素扮演了一個重要的角色。
