    Abstract: 現代（modern），日文譯字，中文譯為「摩登」，台語譯為「毛斷」。從這些不同譯法可以發現，東方社會並不存在「現代」的觀念，而是直接從歐洲文化移植過來。台灣社會到達現代時，正是淪為日本殖民地之際。在被迫接受現代化的過程中，摩登一詞已不純粹意味著現代，而漸漸成為都市文明、時髦、風尚、流行的同義詞。《殖民地摩登》收集近年來有關台灣現代性的學術論文。
