    Abstract: 全球資訊網環境中包含了豐富的各類型多媒體文件及資訊資源,如何提供多元化的多媒體資訊查詢機制及使用者介面,是多媒體資料庫及資訊檢索領域的重要研究主題。其中之技術性課題包括多媒體資訊內容之特徵物件萃取及索引方法、多媒體資訊內容之物件導向資料模式方法、知識輔助之內容基底查詢方法、多媒體資訊檢索之查詢語言及介面設計方法等。其應用領域包括電子商務服務之商品特徵查詢、醫療檢驗系統之影像特徵查詢、地理資訊系統之空間資料特徵查詢、數位圖書館之文件內容查詢、隨取視訊或新聞之影音內容查詢等。本研究的目的即在提出一套以智慧型代理人及知識庫為基礎的全球資訊網內容基底多媒體資訊檢索方法,包含多媒體資訊內容之資料模式建構及查詢介面設計方法等。另外,本研究亦將討論使用者個人化之內容特徵定義及查詢處理方法等。
    Due to the rich contents and multiple types of multimedia documents and information resources on the World Wide Web, how to provide various multimedia information search mechanisms and user interfaces have become major issues in the multimedia database and information retrieval domains. Technical issues include content feature extraction and indexing methods for characterizing multimedia information, Object-Oriented modeling techniques for representing multimedia information contents, knowledge assisted content-based query methods, as well as query language and user interface design methods for multimedia information retrieval process. Application domains include product search by characteristics in electronic commerce services, image feature search in medical examination systems, spatial data search in Geographical Information Systems, document content search in digital libraries, audio and video content-based search in video and news on demands. The goal of this project is to propose a content-based multimedia information retrieval methods on the World Wide Web based on intelligent agents and knowledge bases. To be discussed in this project include data model construction and query interface design methods, as well as personalized content feature definition and associated query processing methods for multimedia information contents.
