This study explores the linguistic mechanism in reports about the visit of Lien Chan and KMT in mainland-china on cross-strait press medias. It uses critical discourse analysis rules to analyse the People’s Daily - Chinese Communist Party’s newspaper, and the Liberty Times in Taiwan. This study finds out symbols like “state”, “ethnicity”, “to be united or independent”, ”party” construct a dual counter system and a category used to set “us” or “them”. Lien Chan as the major actor in the case, the People’s Daily represent him as a correspondent of Hu Jintao , but the Liberty Times models him as the leader who betrays Taiwan and suppresses democracy. The so-different standpoints of these two newspapers also remind us to keep our critical awareness in news media.
