Abstract:	近年來台灣的醫院產業有著很顯著的改變。在過去的十年之間，雖說就整個醫院產業之總床數成長了將近40%，但仍有將近有四分之一（全部醫院約七百家）的醫院相繼離開此市場。也因為醫院總數的大幅下降以及醫院規模的擴大，醫院間的競爭相關問題乃成為大家關注的焦點。然而，文獻中大部分有關醫院競爭文章皆以美國為其研究重心，鮮少討論到台灣這個變化顯著的醫院之競爭行為。本研究主要討論醫院間的競爭如何影響台灣中風病人的治療成本及醫療品質。我們以就醫醫院治療中風的費用來當作成本的衡量變數；以患者一個月，六個月，以及一年後死亡的機率當作品質的衡量變數。至於競爭指標則是計算醫院所在區域（鄉鎮）的地理市場的賀氏指標 (HHI) 來刻畫。利用前述的成本，品質，以及競爭指標，本研究探討市場的競爭是否會影響治療一個新的中風病人之成本，以及治療後的存活時間。
