Abstract:	以「妝扮故事」為主體的藝閣，根植於臺灣人們的歲時禮儀與節慶生活之中，成為庶民生活中一道極為亮麗的流動風景線。其繼承了中國「宗教祭儀/百戲遊藝」的歷史傳統，但又在臺灣特有的時空場域與文化語境中，型塑發展出其風姿迥異的藝閣文化，其間潛藏了無數在人類學、社會學、政治學、民俗學、文化學、工藝學、傳播學與戲劇學等面向的豐富信息，因此頗值得深入去挖掘探索並加以解讀建構。有鑑於歷來學界並未對此課題進行系統性的學術研究，因此本計畫擬定以兩年的時間期程，分別從臺灣與福建兩地入手，通過對文獻典籍的梳理、報刊史料的鉤沈、照片圖像的蒐集、耆老口述的訪談與田野活動的紀錄，作為相互參照比對的對象，主軸以建立臺灣藝閣的歷史圖像與妝扮景觀，從藝閣文化的解讀中去管窺臺灣政治、經濟、社會與文人之間的演化變遷與互動交流；副軸輔以對福建臺閣文化的觀照剖析，從串連對照中去耙梳二者的關係網絡；更進而從藝閣的演出場域、妝扮題材、參與人員以及表演技藝等方面的探究，與中國「百戲競陳」的演劇傳統相互繫連。
