    Abstract: 生命週期理論認為老年人在退休時期會有負儲蓄，因此一個國家人口老化會導致民間儲蓄與公共儲蓄的下降。本研究在第一年以最新總體資料檢視人口老化對於包括台灣在內亞洲主要工業國家儲蓄率的影響。本研究在第二年改從個體觀點檢視台灣老年人的儲蓄行為模式是否符合生命週期的假說；我們與高齡化研究團隊配合，於台北板橋市與台南西港鄉兩個社區進行社區田野調查研究，並分析儲蓄行為的城鄉差異以及族群差異。我們也與經濟安全組團員密切合作，於兩個城鄉社區分別進行老人理財教育實驗，並在第三年時，檢視城鄉老年人接受理財教育前後的儲蓄行為是否顯著改變。
    Life cycle hypothesis argues that elderly dissave in retirement, so the population aging lowers both private and public savings. In the first year, our project will use the most updated macro data to examine the effects of aging on national savings of major Asian industrialized countries. We then use the micro data conducted in two communities (Ban-Chiao and Shi-Gang) to examine whether elderly has life cycle saving pattern in the second year. We will provide the experimental financial educations in both communities and then examine the effect of financial education on elderly saving behavior.
