    Abstract: 一九二O 到三O 年代，殖民地台灣政治、文化、社會運動風起雲湧，蔣渭水是此期間內各種運動的靈魂人物。自1921 年成立台灣文化協會，到1931 年病逝，蔣渭水在十年之間組織或參與過多個運動團體，思想主張也出現重大轉折與變化。但是長期以來的蔣渭水研究受限於特定觀點，有關其思想值得努力探究。另一方面，不同時代的政治力量，也都巧合的以蔣渭水為對象，基於各自的目的為他塑造特定形象。本計劃的第一部份將以蔣渭水所留下豐富的論著為基礎，追索其抵抗論述的主要內涵及其轉折變化的軌跡。從早先對文化運動的主張，中期對政治運動的熱衷，到晚期對社會主義的認同，蔣渭水在各個階段的關懷與主張看似多變且大不相同。筆者將分析，在面對殖民當局文明現代論述與殖民暴力壓迫一體兩面的處境下，蔣渭水在不同階段的思想主張，及這些主張之間的關連性。本計劃的第二部份將針對政治權力對特定人物塑像的現象。日本殖民當局視蔣渭水為.民族主義者.，八O 年代初期台灣民主運動人士重新挖掘抗日運動歷史，稱蔣氏為.台灣的孫中山.，而今在野的中國國民黨接收了對蔣渭水形象的塑造與運用。筆者將探究日治、黨外民主運動時期到民主化以來三個時代中，蔣渭水形象的塑造與政治權力之間的關係。筆者將討論不同時代蔣渭水形象所呈現的面貌、為何出現、以及其實踐過程。本計劃將參考後殖民論述的觀點，分析殖民地人民對於現代性的與殖民性既迎且拒的兩難情感，及權力/知識/歷史詮釋之間的運作關係。
