Character, story and theme construct a literary work. The analysis of characteristic image is always the key method for assisting us in figuring out story plots and theme in a work. 33 emperors have ever appeared in the Kojiki. That is because the narration is based on the records of emperors in the Kojiki volume Two and Three, in other words, they are concentrated on stories about emperors. It is undoubted that the role of emperor in the Kojiki means a lot though there isn’t detailed and relevant narration about every emperor. There are many achievements in every research area concerning Japan’s Emperor because it is regarded as one of the longest monarchies in the world. But most of their points are focused on the establishment of Japan’s Emperor or the relation between emperors with ceremonies. That’s why I think there still is huge space in studying on characteristic images of Japan’s Emperors in the Kojiki. This research targets the emperors and treats them as one type of character in the Kojiki, and tries to analyze its personality, function and appearance of every emperor in each story according to its words, behavior, reaction, expression and attitude in the narration. In addition, this research will induct the images of emperors and compare with other documents at the same age, and then find out what the type means in each story and the Kojiki. I think the research can help us to know the type of Emperor and more understand the meaning of a character in a story. Moreover, we can acquire the feature of characteristic image and the editorial direction in the Kojiki by means of comparing the universal with uniqueness of the Emperor Type. All of them are surely helpful to the systematic analysis and research in the Emperor Type and studying on the depth of the Kojiki.
