The aim of this research is to clarify the old and new problem of “koto” and “mono” in Japanese. The meaning of this research is inquiring the philosophical meaning of “koto” and “mono” from linguistics. The philosophical analysis is not the aim of this research, it is claimed that from the point of view of interdisciplinary, it is helpful borrowing the philosophical approach to clarify some kinds of linguistic problems, and the linguistic approach connect with other fields. “mono” and “koto” in Japanese have the meanings as follows: (1)words before grammaticalization ex:”mono no hon””kotokokoni itatteha” (2)the part of words ex:”monomonosii”:kotogotosii” (3)the words in grammaticalization A:become the part of predicate ex:“-ta mono da””-ta koto ga aru” B:become the complementizer ex:”tikyuu ga marui koto” Meanwhile, “Sein”(有)in western philosophy was the disputed point, and the corresponding concept in Japanese may be “koto” and “mono”. Basically, “mono” indicates a bunch of hypostasis, “koto” indicates the event in the timeline. Because “koto” is dynamic state, it is impossible to grasp the entirety for a moment sometimes. “Mono” is static state, so it is visible. From the level of abstraction, “mono” and “koto” have the hierarchy of “mono→koto→mono”, and “mono” has the dual property ”mono1” and “mono2”. Inside or outside the timeline abstract or concrete sensuous or logical mono1: inside concrete sensuous koto: inside abstract logical mono2: outside abstract sensuous It is necessary to verify the hypothesis is correct or not.
