    Abstract: 繼1992年美國國會選舉女性大有斬獲後，2008年的美國總統大選年，再一次地被稱為「女性參政年」（the year of women）。經濟學人在今（2008）年度專評也提到，女性主義在美國今年選舉中，可能偶有小輸，但長期是勝利豐收的一次。因為在這次總統大選，民主黨初選中希拉芮（Hillary Clinton）奮戰到最後，展現其超強意志，是美國史上最靠近總統位置的女性；進入大選後，共和黨副總統候選人培琳（Sarah Paulin），也為老邁的麥肯拉抬聲勢，一度反轉劣勢；更別提目前國會眾院的議長，也是同為女性的民主黨裴若西（NancyPelosi）。這些女性政治人物的出現，拉高了整體女性參政的氣勢，確實讓美國婦女團體大受鼓舞，但在美國在位者擁有高連任率的現任者優勢主導下，女性在短期內要能夠和資深男性政治人物競爭獲得相同的政治權力，仍面對諸多的瓶頸與限制。這樣的瓶頸在Dolan這本書中，有很完整的介紹。
