The pervasive popularity of the Internet in the past decade has largely changed the way people process information around the world. It also changed the way many students learn. Learning has evolved from the traditional classroom lecture teacher-centered to collaboration student-centered, and to mobile learning that students have direct interaction with the teachers, their peers, and even the world via the Internet. Now, the latest technology has taken learning to the next level. With the installment of WiFi, it is possible for learners to access Real-Time Multimedia information on the net. In other words, students with a mobile device such as a PDA, or a notebook computer, can access to information they wish to know or to learn when they are walking or moving around. They can also receive immediate feedback from their peers and/or their teachers. Facing a group of students, digital natives, who grow up with the Internet and communicate using the Internet, teachers of all disciplines need to try to modify or at least incorporate the Internet and the concept of mobile learning into classrooms today. Besides, as more than 70% of the information on the Internet is in English, English has become the most commonly used language for people around the world to access information and to communicate. Thus, how to improve students’ English ability is another challenge teachers face today. With these notions in mind, this paper tries to combine English learning and a WiFi environment with the hope to incorporate language learning with the latest mobile learning technology. As this paper being part of an on going research project, the main study result is not yet conclusive. However, this paper will share with its readers the theory of mobile learning, the significance of its application in learning in general and in language learning, how the main study will be conducted, and some tentative conclusions. Hopefully, this paper would shed some light on how English teachers can take advantage of the latest technology, and how mobile learning might enhance learning in- and outside classroom.
