It is designed as part of and in cooperation with the international project, “A Comparative Study of Religious Experience across Cultures and Traditions,” that was initiated by the Ian Ramsey Centre at the University of Oxford. The project, to be carried out by a group of scholars of religion trained in humanities, social sciences or other disciplines, will first establish a data bank by way of questionnaire and oral interviews. The participated scholars will arrange, analyze, and interpret the data, and on the basis of which describe the multi-dimensions of religious experience in Taiwan and spell out their distinct features. Deriving from the results, they will, at a series of scheduled international conferences, exchange findings with scholars from other countries who will also have engaged in similar research. It is hoped that through this collaborative effort and comparative approach, the international scholars will be able to grip the meaning of religious experience both in theory and in practice. The research papers will be finally published in book form and circulated in the academic world.
