    Abstract: 本研究以台灣最大的科學社群「Pansci 泛科學」為對象,試
    圖瞭解社交網站和公眾參與的關係。根據網路調查(N
    =1,160),Pansci 使用對於資訊性參與及公民參與皆有正面
    影響,可見臉書科學社群的確對於科學的推廣有所幫助。第
    二,公眾參與也受到Pansci 使用動機影響,社交動機同時和
    兩類參與有關,但娛樂、自我定位、資訊動機則僅和公民參
    與有關。第三,Pansci 使用能夠中介(mediate)與調節
    (moderate)使用動機對公眾參與的影響,內文中將討論這
    些發現的意涵。
    The purpose of this study is to understand how a
    large scientific Facebook social network (Pansci) may
    foster public participation in science, including the
    acquisition of scientific information and civic
    participation in scientific activities. An online
    survey (N =1,160) was conducted in 2014 on the
    members of Pansci Facebook Fan Page to explore their
    usage patterns, motivations of use, and participatory
    behaviors. The results indicated that Pansci use was
    positively associated with both forms of
    participation, even after traditional media use was
    controlled. This suggests that a science-oriented
    social networking site is useful in promoting public
    engagement with science. Additionally, public
    participation was also affected by users'
    motivations. If the users accessed Pansci Facebook
    Fan Page for the purpose of socializing, their
    likelihood in engaging in both forms of participation
    may be increased. However, recreational, selfidentity,
    and informational motivations were only
    linked to civic participation. Finally, Pansci use
    both mediates and moderates the effect of motivation
    on public participation.
