Abstract:	係論述光緒八年至十一年，駐法、英大使曾紀澤在中法越南戰爭期間之外交政策及其交涉過程。全文分三部份，首言中法越南關係之演變及中、西對藩屬關係觀念之迥異乃致造成越南問題之爭。次將中法越南之爭分為明交暗戰期、不宣而戰期、戰爭後期，分別論述曾紀澤外交政策之轉變及交涉經過。其先則期開放紅河通商，引他國以制法，及中法分據越南以阻法，並主張備戰以阻戰，至中國一戰而敗，乃力求不割地陪款，光榮和談，並以外交謀略尋求調停。至其離法赴英後，則仍繼續指導談判，協助調停，此部份係全文重點。最後結論部份，乃探討曾紀澤越南交涉之功過得失。
