    Abstract: 在即將邁入二十一世紀，電子圖書館將是未來時勢所趨。本文主要探討電子圖書館及有關的課題，包括：1.何謂電子圖書館，敘述其定義與內涵；2.電子圖書館最近發展，國際間電子圖書發展舉例；3.電子圖書館與傳統圖書館區別；4.電子圖書館對現有圖書館內部作業影響，包括對採訪、分編、典藏、借閱、讀者服務等項目的影響；5.電子圖書館對使用者的影響，包括對使用者目錄查檢、圖書借閱、參考服務、期刊文獻取得等項目的影響；6.圖書館員角色的轉變與因應；7.電子圖書館面臨的問題；以及8.未來展望。
    The 21st century is coming soon. The electronic library will be the trend of the next century. This article discusses the electronic library and serveral related topics, including: 1. what is the electronic library? definition and components of the electronic library are described; 2. the current developments of the electronic library, some examples of the electronic library are described; 3. the differences between the traditional library and the electronic library; 4. the impacts of the electronic library on library activities, such as: acquisition, classification, cataloging, circulation and user services; 5. the impacts of the electronic library on users, including: catalog access, book borrowing, reference services and journal articles access; 6. the change of the role of librarians and their responses; 7. the problems of the electronic library; and 8. future prospects of the electronic library.
