Abstract:	集團主義為日本社會中，最俱特徵的因素，因此本文旨在探討日本式集團主義的特質，並論及它在日本近代化的過程中，所扮演的功能。在方法論上，為著避免陷入文化的先入為主觀，因而本文直接由探討日本文化，內在的固有屬著手，則日本式集團主義，可說是協同團體主義，集團的內部特別強調成員間的人和。它的起源，始於江戶時代的特殊社會背景而產生，此後日本社會雖然歷經種種變遷，但是現代社會組織體當中，仍採取許多集團主義的措施，因此使得集團主義仍然存續下來。而集團主義的原型為家元。它是基於血緣原理與合理契約原理的二元結構，使得組織較具開放性，因而日本的次級集團能夠無限的擴充，在現代化過程中，扮演著正面積極的功能。
