Abstract:	本文之目的在於以雲南為例，探討清末新軍編練的成效及其與辛亥革命的關係。自一八九五年甲午戰爭中國慘敗之後，為重建國防武力，清廷開始逐步編練新式軍隊，實行軍事改革。及至一九○一年因八國聯軍之役簽訂辛丑和約後，清廷更加快軍事改革的腳步，將其範圍擴及全國；除了在中央設立專責機構，制定練兵辦法外，並積極推動新軍的編練。雲南於奉命編練新軍後，初期成效不彰；然而自一九○七年錫良接任雲貴總督以來，滇省軍事改革不論是在新軍的編練或是陸軍講武堂的創辦上，都取得一定的成果，其發展成績尚稱理想。清廷創建新軍原是為了鞏固其政權，但雲南卻因為部份新軍軍官態度傾向革命，日後這些軍官更帶領新軍發動雲南辛亥起義，反而敲響了清廷覆亡的喪鐘。雲南新軍在滇省辛亥革命中扮演了關鍵的角色，這也是清末編練新軍在近代中國歷史進程中所起的重大作用之一。
