In this project, we conducted social network analysis to extract objective information from real world data. Our research goal was to identify political power cliques in different stages of the R. O. C. government. We designed a social network model to encode the superior-subordinate relation in political power and employed several network measures to observe political power status of individuals and groups. The experiments were conducted based on actual career data of government officials and showed sufficient accuracy and validity. This led to the development of a prototype platform of political power observation. We hope this platform can serve as an exploration tool for social scientists in the study of political power issues and encourage more interdisciplinary research endeavor.
