Abstract:	在臺灣有鑑於自1990年代以來對臺灣的族群問題、省籍意識及其與政治行為的關注與研究，族群與省籍因素是普遍被認為有影響力的，顯示族群是臺灣的特有現象。但其中存在若干疑問，如民族與族群在理論與經驗上的關係，省籍與族群在臺灣社會結構上的關係，如何看待省籍或是族群因素在臺灣政治中扮演的角色等等。本文係運用文獻研究法，重點則是回顧族群研究在民族主義論述、人類學與社會學領域中的主要觀點，以釐清族群與民族之間的關係，從而提出「族群差異意識」來取代一般所謂之「族群意識」，政治參與部分則以美國學者山謬爾杭亭頓（Samuel Huntington）的論點為主說明發展中國家的參與特色，政治人物之選擇有重大影響，再由媒體所做的一些有關政治活動之民意調查作為觀察的對象，以期了解臺灣社會在政治參與上是否有依族群界線為分野之現象。結果顯示，族群差異意識會對臺灣民眾政治參與發生影響，期望未來之政治參與活動中，政治人物應審慎其競選策略，努力減少族群與政治互動之間所造成之損失。
