This project presents a web-based learning and research support system for Robotics. The system includes a courseware and a collaborative learning management system. The courseware is in the HTML format accompanied with text, still and animated images, computer aided design tools. Besides managing users and courseware, the learning management system provides support for collaborative learning, design and research.
The courseware is organized by chapters and sections, leads users from robotic parts to robotic systems. Virtual robotic systems are formed in a Java applet program. Robotic controls are demonstrated by the virtual systems. Furthermore, with appropriate interactive graphic user interface, a web-based computer-aided robotics design software is embedded into a webpage as part of the courseware.
The courseware is mounted on a learning management system (LMS). Besides providing communication tools, the LMS also provides support for collaborative learning, collaborate design, and collaborate research. With a database server in the LMS, a user can retrieve mechanical part files from LMS to design his own robotic system and save his result back to the LMS.
A user not only can use the computer-aided design software in the courseware to learn, but also can modify a software module to research. The software is organized by different function modules. By uploading a java program and replacing certain module, a user can change the behavior of the software. In this way a research team can work together collaboratively.
