    Abstract: 無酸紙的使用是為解決紙張酸化以致紙張碎裂、紙本資料無法長久保存的問題。自19世紀初葉，木漿成為現代造紙工業的主要原料，帶來大量造紙的便利，但也同時帶來了圖書紙張劣化、酸化的缺陷。由於木材本身具有帶酸性的木質素（lignin），導致木漿紙張快速酸化碎裂。根據1985年的文獻指出，美國國會圖書館將近四分之一的館藏，其碎裂程度已近乎無法使用，這使得圖書館員必須正視酸化導致圖書紙張損毀問題的嚴重性。紙張酸化問題最根本的解決之道在於無酸紙的使用，本文就圖書館界鼓吹及推廣無酸紙利用所扮演的角色切入，探討無酸紙的相關議題，例如：關注紙張毀損問題、促進紙張劣化的實驗、領導永久紙標準的制訂，以及推動無酸紙的立法與使用。
