Fin Lit Academy: Financial Planning & Educational Coaching for Young Adults
    By
    Phillip C. McDaniels
Fin Lit Academy (FLA) business concept is an opportunity for educational financial coaching & planning for young adults and high schoolers. It is modeled as traditional financial coaching & planning with a social entrepreneurship philosophy to provide and promote financial education.
FLA emphasizes educational financial coaching and providing a safe online platform to assist individuals with financial planning, coaching, and educational courses. The primary scope of FLA is to provide a social benefit in the form of financial education that improves outcomes of individual and associated clients by wealth growth and improved financial acumen. As a Certified Financial Planner with a teaching background, FLA leverages partnering with local schools to promote social awareness of financial literacy and potentially build client profiles.
The target demographics are young adults and high schools by way of school partnering and parents in the Greater Kansas City area. The niche is those who have been priced out of improving their financial health by the traditional financial planning, advising, and consulting industry. FLA is positioned as a teacher first, financial coach second. The education system at large doesn’t teach the necessary skills nor are teachers equipped to do so. Traditional financial planning is costly and many lack trust, funds, knowledge, or a combination of these.
The social impact of FLA is most important to the growth of the company. This allows the company to leverage its unique approach to reach the target demographic and strategic affiliations with local schools, educational platforms, and possible financial institutions for further financial literacy growth and awareness.
