    Abstract: 2019年底,全球爆發的COVID-19疫情對美國經濟和各行業帶來了巨大的衝擊,使得當地失業率急劇上升。本研究旨在探討疫情期間美國公司裁員情況,特別聚焦於美國宣告裁員的上市公司所在地區、所屬產業別以及裁員宣告的季度,研究時間跨足自2020年第一季至2023年第一季。

    在研究方法方面,本研究運用回歸分析,探討裁員數量與地理區域、產業和時間的相互關係。同時,研究調查了COVID-19大流行期間和後疫情時期裁員情況的差異。實證結果表明,在地區方面,美國的技術樞紐西雅圖經歷了更為明顯的裁員情況。至於受影響的產業,主要包括消費品、商業管理相關行業和教育。此外,研究結果還揭示,後疫情時期的裁員情況超過了COVID-19疫情期間的裁員水平。這些研究結果將有助於更全面地了解疫情對美國企業的影響。
    At the end of 2019, the global outbreak of COVID-19 significantly impacted the U.S. economy and industries, leading to a substantial increase in local unemployment. The objective of this research is to illustrate workforce reductions in the U.S. during the pandemic, focusing on three perspectives: Region, Industry, and Quarter data from 2020 Q1 to 2023 Q1 for various publicly traded companies in the U.S.

    The research uses regression analysis to examine the relationships between total layoffs and geographical regions, industries, and periods. Additionally, it investigates the differences in layoff situations during the COVID-19 pandemic and post-epidemic era. The empirical results indicate that in terms of regions, technology hubs like Seattle have experienced higher layoffs. Regarding industries, consumer goods, business management-related industries, and education have been affected. The study also reveals that post-pandemic layoffs surpassed those during the COVID-19 period.
