With the growing rise of China, one of the areas in which they are increasing their influence is within the United Nations. This thesis aimed to figure out if China is currently influencing the United Nations as scholars have pointed out in the past; and if so, how has the nation been doing so. By using the voting records from the General Assembly alongside searching for Chinese keywords in various statements and resolutions; this research was able to prove two hypothesis: that Xi Jinping has continued to increase China’s influence within the United Nations and because of this, there has been competition to US influence within the institution and that some norms have changed to go against the liberal international order. China has been steadily growing its power in the United Nations, and when a player is big enough, it makes sense that their policies would begin to make impacts and influence the world it interacts with. And where better to influence the world than in the primary global governance institution with the ability to change the norms and practices of the underlying foundation of how the world works.
