    摘要: 本研究主要在建立臺灣 359 各鄉鎮市區之社會地位指標，另外也探討都會地區與 非都會地區社會地位之差異。 主要發現有：（ a ）都會區與非都會地有社會地位之區隔、 離都市區愈遠之鄉鎮市區，其社會地位有愈低的趨勢。 （ b ）行業分工程度對社會地位有 顯著正向影響，他解釋 38% 的社會地位變異量。本研究結果支持社會進化論。 社會愈進化 ，其分工複雜度愈高，居民的社會地位也愈高。 This study is chiefly to determine the social status indicator of the 359 districts. Additionally it is to investigate the social status segregation between metropolitan areas and other areas. Important findings are the following: （ a ） There is segregation of social status between metropolitan areas and non-metropolitan areas. The farther a district is located away from an urban area, the lower its social status. （ b ） The labor division has significant effect on social status. It explains 38% of social status variance. The theoretical implication of this study focuses on the support of social evolutionism. The more advanced a district is, the higher its labor division and the higher the social status of its residents will be. From the viewpoint of well-balanced regional development between metropolitan and country areas, the government needs to promote more investments in infrastructure for education in remote country districts.
