摘要: The global shift toward renewable energy is crucial for achieving sustainable development and mitigating climate change impacts. This study investigates the key socio-economic and environmental determinants of renewable energy transition across 20 cities and counties in Taiwan from 1998 to 2021, utilizing a dynamic panel estimation approach. The findings reveal that investments in research and development (R&D), information technology, and government spending on environmental protection significantly influence renewable energy transition. The findings reveal that a 1% increase in government spending and R&D investment significantly accelerates the energy transition by 0.26% and 0.21%, respectively, over the long term. These two factors also exhibit bidirectional relationship with energy transition. While government expenditure on environmental protection shows limited short-term effects, the study highlights the crucial role of information and communication technology in advancing Taiwan’s renewable energy transition.
