China's high-speed rail (HSR) strategy has transformed the country's urban landscape, economy, and international role. This thesis analyzes how China's HSR network is stimulating urban development by improving regional accessibility and stimulating new economic zones around stations, while reshaping city centers and real estate markets. Economically, HSR has boosted productivity, developed the labor market, and promoted regional integration, although the benefits remain concentrated in large urban centers. Socially, HSR has improved mobility and national cohesion, but challenges remain in terms of affordability and equitable access for low-income groups. Internationally, China is leveraging HSR exports as part of its "Belt and Road" initiative, using infrastructure projects to expand its influence, although these efforts face financial and regulatory hurdles abroad. The study concludes that while HSR is a powerful tool for growth and connectivity, its long-term success depends on careful planning, social inclusion, and sustainable financing.
