| Abstract: | 本研究透過文本分析三部泰國影視作品—《暹羅女王》(2001)、《泰王納黎萱》(2006–2015)與《天生一對》(2018),探討泰國影視劇如何在政治或社會危機下,運用劇情與敘事回應時代情境,並以「三位一體」(王室、宗教、泰族)元素建構愛國主義,以達政治目的。
研究動機來自2020年泰國學運後,社會對軍方與王室質疑日增,傳統愛國主義宣傳效果式微,「三位一體」意識形態面臨挑戰。考量影視作品作為國族建構與社會穩定的工具,本文聚焦四大研究問題:三位一體如何在劇中再現?影視如何與時代對話?愛國敘事呈現何種變化?並探討影視於文化治理中所扮演的角色。
研究方法採個案質性研究,並以王室、宗教、泰族三軸為分析指標。文獻回顧結合Anderson的「想像的共同體」、Dayan與Katz的「媒介事件」理論,說明媒體作為建構國族認同與宣傳工具的角色;另援引Ishii、Selway、Fong、Dressel、Sripokangkul等對「泰國性」、「三位一體」的研究,輔以Thongchai與Strate對「我者/他者」邊界的探討。
研究發現三部作品反映各時期的政治訴求與敘事策略。《暹羅女王》強化王室形象、重申穩定與國家利益;《泰王納黎萱》突顯王室、佛教、軍隊的不可分割,支持軍政府正當性與敵我區分;《天生一對》則透過懷舊與日常文化情境,柔性內化三位一體。這顯示影視作品中的愛國主義敘事並非固定,而是隨政治情境與社會焦慮不斷重構。政權在尋求穩定時,強化忠誠與敵意;在正當性不足時,則以文化認同與情感敘事重建基礎。整體而言,愛國敘事正由剛性轉向柔性,展現泰國政府透過娛樂媒介進行文化治理與價值導向的高度期待。 This study conducts a textual analysis of three Thai historical dramas—The Legend of Suriyothai (2001), King Naresuan (2006–2015), and Love Destiny (2018)—to explore how they respond to political or social crises through narrative strategies that reinforce patriotism “via the trinity of Monarchy, Religion, and Thai Ethnicity”.
The research is motivated by observations following the 2020 Thai protests, which revealed growing public skepticism toward the military and monarchy. In this context, traditional forms patriotic propaganda appeared less effective, suggesting that the ideological foundation of the trinity was being challenged.
Using a qualitative case study method, the analysis is informed by Anderson’s concept of Imagined Communities and Dayan and Katz’s theory of Media Events, alongside scholarship by Ishii, Selway, Fong, Dressel, Sripokangkul, Thongchai, and Strate.
Findings indicate distinct narrative strategies shaped by political needs. Suriyothai, sponsored by the monarchy, emphasizes royal authority and national unity. King Naresuan, backed by the military regime, portrays the inseparable linkage between the monarchy, Buddhism, and the military. Love Destiny reflects a shift to soft power, embedding patriotism in nostalgia and everyday culture.
These evolving portrayals suggest that “Thai-ness” is continuously redefined in response to changing political climates. The growing use of emotional, flexible narratives, over rigid, authoritarian tones, demonstrates the Thai state's increasing reliance on entertainment media to promote ideological cohesion and national stability. |
