| Abstract: | 本文以1980年代至2024年間的台灣文學作品為研究範疇，並以歐美文學老年學（Literary Gerontology）為研究方法基礎。從「身體」、「關係」與「記憶」三個面向切入，探討當代老年主體的重構，並提出台灣老年文學的三種詮釋框架：「退／蛻」、「共老」與「歷史／自我」。
第二章「退／蛻變」探討現代社會將老化視為退化的身體論述，強化了青春／老化二元對立的思考邏輯。然而，文學亦揭示超越的潛能。此章以王文興（1939-2023）《剪翼史》（2016）為例，探討身體的「退」與精神的「蛻」的辯證關係，展現老年成長的雙重性與非線性特質。
第三章「共老」聚焦於女性視角。不同於過往將老年女性視為「負擔」角色，二十一世紀後，照護責任逐漸從「家內事」轉為「社會事」，照護書寫成為理解老年的新視角。此章以陳淑瑤（1967-）《雲山》（2019）與鍾文音（1966-）《別送》（2021）為例，闡述女性書寫如何在開放的照護關係中，將老年女性視為共同面對老病死的同行者，並發展出獨特的老年美學。
第四章「歷史／自我」探討台灣歷史脈絡中的老年記憶。過往在身分危機下，老年記憶經常被視為國族寓言，突顯族群歷史的失落。隨著後結構主義思潮的深入，書寫則逐漸勾勒出個體差異化的生命歷程。此章以賴香吟（1969-）《白色畫像》（2022）與平路（1953-）《夢魂之地》（2024）為例，闡述小說如何在歷史與個體經驗之間尋求平衡，塑造出多元而立體的老年角色。
本研究梳理1980年代至今的老年文學發展，論證當代台灣老年文學的三種轉變：在身體層面從衰退論述到成長潛能、在關係層面從照護衝突到共老互助、在記憶層面從國族寓言到生命定位。這些轉變顯示老年人從社會問題的隱喻，轉變為具有能動性的主體。本研究不僅為台灣文學提供新的詮釋框架，更為理解高齡社會的人文面向奠定基礎。
This study focuses on Taiwan literature from the 1980s to 2024, adopting Literary Gerontology as its methodological foundation. It explores the reconstruction of aging subjectivity through three dimensions: “body,” “relationships,” and “memory.” The study proposes three interpretive frameworks for aging in Taiwan literature: Decline/Metamorphosis, Co-Aging, and History/Self.
Chapter Two, Decline/Metamorphosis, investigates the modern cultural discourse that equates aging with bodily decline, reinforcing a binary opposition between youth and old age. Taking Wang Wen-hsing’s (1939-2023) Clipping Wings: A Chronicle (2016) as an example, this chapter analyzes the dialectical relation between bodily “decline” and spiritual “metamorphosis,” demonstrating the dual and non-linear qualities of aging as a process of growth.
Chapter Three, Co-Aging, focuses on female perspectives. Unlike traditional depictions of elderly women as burdens, the twenty-first century has seen caregiving shift from a “domestic affair” to a “social matter,” making care narratives a new lens for understanding aging. Through analysis of Chen Shu-yao’s (1967-) Cloud Mountain (2019) and Chung Wen-yin’s (1966-) Farewell Unsent (2021), this chapter demonstrates how women’s writing reimagines elderly women not as passive dependents but as companions jointly confronting illness, aging, and death, thereby developing a distinctive aesthetic of aging.
Chapter Four, History/Self, situates memories of old age within Taiwan’s historical context. In times of identity crisis, elderly memory has often been cast as a national allegory, underscoring the losses of ethnic histories. With the rise of post-structuralist thought, however, literary works increasingly foreground differentiated individual life courses. Examining Lai Xiangyin’s (1969-) Portrait in White (2022) and Ping Lu’s (1953-) Passing (2024), this chapter explores how literature negotiates between history and personal experience, constructing more diverse and multidimensional representations of aging.
By tracing the trajectory of representation of aging from the 1980s to the present, this study identifies three key transformations in contemporary Taiwan literature: from decline to growth in bodily discourse, from caregiving conflict to co-aging in relational narratives, and from national allegory to individual life positioning in memory. These transformations demonstrate how elderly individuals have shifted from metaphors for social problems to subjects with agency. This research not only provides a new interpretive framework for Taiwan literature but also contributes a humanistic perspective for understanding aging in an aging society. |
