Abstract: | 本研究以玩家與角色關係理論(Player–Avatar Relationship, PAR)為基礎,探討高難度生存遊戲中的「永久死亡」機制對玩家死亡挫敗感與繼續遊戲意願之影響,並檢驗關係親密度、控制主導性與自我效能等心理因素之作用。本研究以開放世界生存遊戲《Don’t Starve Together》作為實驗刺激物,透過實驗設計共招募 65 名受試者,並採用問卷測量死亡挫敗感、繼續遊戲意願及玩家與角色關係構面,並以 SPSS PROCESS 進行中介與調節分析。
研究結果顯示,永久死亡顯著提升玩家的死亡挫敗感成立,進一步分析亦證實死亡意義在死亡挫敗感與繼續遊戲意願之間具中介效果,顯示玩家雖然因永久死亡感受到更高挫敗,但並不直接降低其繼續遊戲的意願,反而可能透過將死亡視為有意義的事件而轉化負面情緒為動機。至於關係親密度與控制主導性等構面的調節效果則未達顯著,顯示玩家與角色的互動關係在本研究中影響有限。
綜合而言,本研究指出,永久死亡雖帶來強烈的情緒挫敗,但同時透過中介機制仍能維持玩家的參與動機。此發現不僅補充了遊戲中的永久死亡機制研究中的應用,亦對遊戲設計提出實務啟示,特別是在如何於高難度機制與玩家情感體驗間取得平衡。 Grounded in the Player–Avatar Relationship (PAR) theory, this study investigates the impact of the “permadeath” mechanism in survival games on players’ frustration of death and their willingness to continue playing, while considering relational closeness, sense of control, and self-efficacy. Using Don’t Starve Together as the experimental stimulus, 65 participants completed gameplay and questionnaires, and the data were analyzed through mediation and moderation models with the SPSS PROCESS macro. Results showed that permadeath significantly increased frustration of death. Further analysis revealed that the meaning attributed to death mediated the link between frustration and willingness to continue playing, indicating that although frustration was heightened, it did not directly reduce willingness to engage; rather, framing death as meaningful could transform negative emotions into renewed motivation. In contrast, relational closeness and sense of control did not show significant moderating effects, suggesting limited influence of avatar-related factors in this context. In sum, permadeath elicits strong frustration yet can sustain engagement through mechanisms of meaning. These findings extend the application of PAR theory to death mechanics in games and provide practical insights for designers seeking to balance difficulty with meaningful player experiences. |
