Abstract: In October 2023, Zephyr Solaris Energy Corp., a leading renewable energy company in Taiwan, faced a crucial decision regarding expanding its solar installations in rural south Taiwan. At its Taipei headquarters, Chairman Li Ming-jie and the board grappled with balancing growth against agricultural preservation. The challenge involved meeting Taiwan’s clean energy targets while protecting farmland and addressing interests of multiple stakeholders: local farmers, government officials, and customers. The board’s decision would significantly impact both the company’s future and Taiwan’s renewable energy landscape. This case explored the interplay between renewable energy development, agricultural preservation, and stakeholder management in Taiwan’s transition to sustainable energy.
