After the 1910 annexation of Korea by Japan, many Korean revolutionaries fled overseas, and started independence movements. In 1914, the Provisional Government of Korea was established in Shanghai, representing the center of the independence movement, and the Korean independence movement became an integral part of Chinese history. Thus research into the Korean independence movement must have an understanding of the political situation in China at that time. The Chinese Nationalist Party controlled the national government and the Korean independence movement very closely. The national government continued to help strengthen the Korean independence movement, and when the Sino-Japanese War broke out, such assistance became part of national government policy. However, while the national government actively assisted the Korean independence movement, it only had limited effects. Some researchers believe that the national government aid for the Korean movement cannot be ignored. However, what were the reasons for this aid from the national government? This paper argues that the political factions within the KMT had a non-negligible impact. The purpose of this paper is an attempt to explore the influence of competing factions within the KMT on the Korean independence movement, in order to improve this research theme of the Korean independence movement in China.
